The Vineyard Movement

blue-grapes-vineyardThe Vineyard Movement is a network of over 1,500 churches worldwide, committed to seeing each generation reached by the power of the Gospel. With a view to embrace integrity in Christian character along with the activity of the Holy Spirit, each Vineyard church seeks to be an outpost of God’s compassionate love in a broken world.

Vineyard Churches UK and Ireland exists to participate in the advancement of the Kingdom of God through the work of local Vineyard churches that communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ in word and practice. Vineyard works on three main principles:

Preach the Gospel

We would describe this as ‘word and works’, one without the other is incomplete. Jesus proclaimed the word of the Lord and did the deeds of the Lord.

One of our highest values in the Vineyard is that each person does their own part in Kingdom work. We preach the gospel, pray for the sick, feed the hungry and clothe the naked, and do all of this in a Naturally Supernatural way.

These are all acts of service, and is simply the local church at work. Our persistent goal is to see what God is doing and then join in. As Jesus said ‘the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.’ (John 5:19. NIV).

The mission of the church is the continuation of the ministry of Jesus; so we actively train and equip people to preach the gospel and to feed the hungry, pray for the sick and to do all that we saw Jesus do in the Bible.

Plant Churches

We’ve always felt, and believed, that who our country needs, more than anything else, is Jesus, and that Church Planting is the best form of evangelism.

So, having preached the gospel and led people to Jesus, and in order to disciple them, the best way to do that is through churches. Through both developing existing churches and at the same time, alongside that, planting new churches.

This was our original calling and is something that we will continue doing, nationally and internationally, in our culture and other cultures.

Change the World

In John 14:12 Jesus said ‘If you have faith in Me, you will do the same things that I am doing.”(CEV)

In the Vineyard we often read John 14:12 like this: ‘I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do “the stuff” that I have been doing. He will do even greater “stuff” than these because I am going to the Father.’ From this came our popular phrase and practice ‘Doin’ the Stuff’.

Our understanding of the application of the words of Jesus’ from John 14, are that we should be able to minister (to do the stuff) like Jesus did. This covers preaching the gospel, praying for (and seeing God heal) the sick and taking care of those in need.

Vineyard churches have a firm belief that ‘Everybody gets to play’, by which we mean that the whole body of Christ (the church) should find their place and get working.

This involves locally, nationally and internationally; we believe that we have a role to play in changing the world, both through direct ministry and through example.
