Good Neighbour Scheme

A local initiative run by local people for local people

GNS Logo 182x200The Good Neighbour Scheme has been developed to extend existing help being offered by neighbours and friends in an organised way through local volunteers.

There are several similar schemes running in other villages and small towns all of which carry the endorsement of the Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity.

The Good Neighbour Scheme consists of a team of volunteers who are happy to make themselves available to help out with light household chores, simple repairs and transport needs.

What sort of help may I receive?

  • Replacing a light bulb that you cannot easily reach
  • Small emergency repairs (eg fuses, smoke alarms etc)
  • Collecting a prescription from the surgery or chemist when you are unable to go yourself
  • Walking a dog when you are unwell
  • Taking you to the hospital, clinic or surgery
  • Filling in forms or writing letters when you are not sure what to do
  • Providing a simple meal if you are unwell
  • Helping out with shopping when you cannot manage alone

What will it cost?

There is no charge for this service, although we will expect you to pay for any materials used by our volunteers.

All our volunteers are CRB checked and carry identity passes.
