SPIRIT FLOW: Will’s Thoughts…

Spirit Flow is essentially a snapshot of homegrown worship songs, recorded with my old St Barnabas evening band during 2001. It was my first stab at writing congregation-friendly songs to be used in church. The songs grew out of my own journey with God, as well as some powerful gathered worship times at the St B's evening services over a period of 4 and a bit years (1998-2002). Whilst there were time and budget restraints with production, I’m still pleased with the vibe that we managed to create in the studio.

Your Praise is a track often mentioned as a favourite, and is possibly the most accessible in terms of 'congregation factor'.  Touch Of Grace and Lead Me On have also been singled out for special mention by quite a few. People seem to really connect with the honesty and vulnerability of Lead Me On, and I’ve heard reports of it really impacting those who are going through a real ‘dry’ phase in their relationship with Jesus. Why do people particularly like Touch Of Grace? Well, I guess it’s the yearning for God that’s expressed, admitting our utter weakness and desperate need of Him, combined with a heart to see others come into His incredible grace aswell.

There’s been a very natural gradual progression for me over the years with song writing. It's gone from the early days of doing gigs using mainstream songs with underlying Christian themes, to some more direct God-focused stuff and Christian contemporary material in the present. Whatever style or mode I’m in, my heart remains the same: to ‘carry’ the presence of God to people through the gift of music and song that He’s entrusted me with.

For me personally, the most important thing has been hearing feedback from a number of people that have found it a really valuable tool in drawing them closer to God. Forgetting all the other stuff, if it's proved a useful aid for personal worship of our awesome mind blowing God, then I've done my job I reckon!

Since making the album, Will has done Tribal Training (a part-time church leadership and discipleship training course) at St Thomas Crookes Church in Sheffield (2002-2003). Subsequently, he and his wife Ema started going to Potton Vineyard in August 2003 and moved to Potton in December of the same year. Their daughter Beth was born in May 2004, and son Thomas in October 2006. Will works as an audio-visual assistant for Derek Prince Ministries in Baldock (http://www.dpmuk.org), and Ema works 3 days a week teaching at Barnabas Oley Primary School in Great Gransden (http://www.barnabasoley.cambs.sch.uk/).
