Grow in Faith

Hospital broadcast review

For the past few years I have been asking God to let me share the story of my conversion in public as a way giving of thanks and glory to God. It is quite an unusual story. And so it came to pass through Alpha and I came to Alpha by a chance remark during the last week of newcomers. "What am I going to do with my Thursday evenings now?" and Jim suggested helping at Alpha.

So to Alpha I went basically to set up and pack away and found it fascinating because of all the questions people asked which I never asked because of my conversion story. Enter the answer to my prayer stage left via Bernadette who asked if I would be willing to be a guest on her show, along with Steve and Lyn, to talk about Alpha. I expressed doubts because I didn't feel that I could add much, you see I was found by God through visions when I wasn't looking for him, but was desperately in need of help.

Through gentle and persistent persuasion from Bernadette and much encouragement from my wife Shirley I found my self in the studio in a Sunday evening with my fellow guests. Of course, we were all nervous but we were made so welcome by Bernadette's excitement and enthusiasm and John's quiet reassuring presence.

The first half was devoted to Alpha and our responses to the questions put to us interspersed with music which include two great tracks chosen by Steve. Now Steve likes a little air Sax accompaniment to his tracks which keeps him from becoming a drummer or dancing on the table! Lyn despite her fears of her mind thinking one thing and speaking another made an eloquent contribution especially about the Holy spirit which was emphasized again by Steve.

By the time the second half was under way I was relaxed and excited. Since it was very evident especially through the chose of music that God and his spirit where present. So I just told my story with the choice of music I had Chosen. Throughout the preceding week I had prayed that God would show me how to construct my story for this broadcast and nothing came I guess until I spoke and found myself answering some probing questions from Bernadette. Now I had prayed asking God to let me pray over the air and so I did at the end, which was a privilege. Now I haven’t as yet heard that sign and wonders have broken since that night and I guess that this side of Heaven my be I won't, by I reckon something happened somewhere.

In my mind I pictured sharing my story before an invited audience in church with our band playing at intervals throughout ending with prayer and God power and presence breaking out maybe, a safe environment. But Radio never entered my mind.

So I encourage you to go along and make a contribution, say yes to Bernadette when she asks you and She will and have fun with God. If you’ve got ideas for the show share them with Bernadette we could make this the "Potton show" by our support.

An If you want to know my story you'll have to wait for the CD pulled off the broadcast computer which hopefully is good enough to maybe go on the church website, by the techies in the studio, or I'll have to do it again!
